How does Steptime block apps?
Steptime uses iOS Screen Time APIs to shield the apps you choose (like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube). When an app is shielded, you’ll be prompted to convert steps into unlock time before you can use it.
What does “Walk to unlock” mean?
Your daily steps turn into screen time. When you want to open a blocked app, Steptime shows how many steps convert into access so you move first, scroll later.
Which phones are supported?
iPhone with iOS 16 or later. Steptime integrates with Apple Health to read step count and with Screen Time to manage shields.
Do I have to grant Health permissions?
Yes—Steptime needs read-only access to your step count to convert steps into unlock credits. You can change permissions anytime in Settings.
What about privacy?
Your step data stays on-device unless you explicitly back it up. Steptime only reads the minimum needed to compute credits and doesn’t sell your data.
Will this drain my battery?
No. Steptime reads step data from Apple Health (which is already tracked by the system) and applies shields using Screen Time. There’s no constant GPS usage.
